Where Is Helsingor?
Helsingor is one of our personal favourite places in Denmark, it is only 50km’s from Copenhagen but the coast line is so dramatic and wonderful and you can actually see Sweden when standing at the waters edge. There is 10 km’s of (very cold) water seperating Helsingor and Helsingborg in Sweden and there is an operational ferry running daily.
Where will I Marry?
As you can see from the wonderful video above it the town hall is glorious and the ceremony room is such a romantic space!
The History & Sights in the Area?
Lots of people may have already heard of Helsingor as it hosts the castle that was made famous by Shakespeares play ‘Hamlet’. A place of pilgrimage for Shakespearean scholars from around the world. Follow in Hamlet’s footsteps in the soldier’s quarters and storerooms, which stretch beneath the castle and contain a famed statue of the legendary Viking chief Holger the Dane. It’s a great trip out even for those not so keen in Shakespeare!
After the castle you can then relax at the beautiful Helsingor Havn the wonderful marina, you can watch the sun go down and share a picnic there are lots of wonderful retaurants in the area our particular favourite being Kaj that serves wonderful food and really shows the meaning of the Danish word Hygge!
Helsingor is only 50km’s away from Copenhagen that makes it super easy to get to by car or train. It takes about 40 minutes in the car or 50 on the train. And you can get to Sweden in 20 minutes on the ferry, so it is a perfect location for your weddding if you are wanting a beautiful coastal town, wonderful scenery and easy to get to from Sweden and Copenhagen.
